Ahoy! I tried to pull your thoughts together by combining your two comments. I like the result, tho it’s, um, open to interpretation, you might say… : )
I googled hominid, and the Merriam-Webster tag-team defines it “as any of a family (Hominidae) of erect bipedal primate mammals that includes recent humans together with extinct ancestral and related forms and in some recent classifications the gorilla, chimpanzee, and orangutan.” Hmm… that covers a lot of ground, and even some jungle!
So maybe you were shooting for “Less color, more shared hominidy.” Or, if you live in the tropics, more shared humidity… : )

We need each other more than ever, in this world. I hope that what divides us will lessen soon – and stay away for good. Life’s challenging enough without being at so horribly odds with our fellow human beings. Moving post, Mark!

And a very moving comment, RK– beautifully said, my sentiments exactly.
There’s nothing wrong with being proud of who you are and where you come from– we all need some of that. But identity politics seems misguided to me. Conflict’s part of the human condition, and sure, people have legitimate grievances, but building walls and calling each other names solves nothing.
One of my favorite Martin Luther King, Jr. quotes is: “I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
He also said: “We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.”
I was shooting for something along those lines.

Lovely sketch and as always, much needed in these times as a reminder of what we seem to be ever willing to forget.
Being a dual citizen made me question and struggle with identity until I realized the only citizenship that counts and matters is being human. Even when skin colour, language, etc, make us stand apart, it’s our humanity (behaviour, attitude, actions, words and how we treat each other) that makes us stand out and stand together. 😀

And what an extraordinarily fine comment it is. I loved “the only citizenship that counts and matters is being human,” and I loved the way you defined “humanity” (= our behaviour, attitude, actions, words and how we treat each other), and I really loved that concluding phrase; i.e., the idea that it’s our shared humanity that makes us stand out and stand together. Beautiful, my dear Radhika!!
I’d nominate you for Global Secretary of Sisterhood, Brotherhood, and Little Red Riding Hood, but that would mean giving speeches, attending conferences, appearing on talk shows, and you’d probably get in trouble for trying to lug all your power tools onto airplanes, just in case you needed them. And besides, we’d miss you down at the Ganges Club… : )
