The Brown Fox Steals a Motorcycle and Has the Best Day of His Life

October 4, 2024

Fox on a motorcycle roars up a ramp represented by a huge pencil and sails up and over a dog lying on the ground who looks up at him with disdain.

No, it’s not something a basketball player does with the ball, or what a baby does with his mashed peas.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

It’s original meaning is to make wet and muddy. Think of my pant cuffs dragging on the ground when I’m out walking in the rain.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

Nowadays it refers to a story that’s exactly 100 words long.blank vertical space, 24 pixels high

There are a lot of drabble challenges on the Medium platform. Somebody comes up with a prompt, then challenges writers to write a drabble on the subject.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

I tried my hand at one recently. The prompt: The Best Day of My Life.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

Here’s the whole thing.blank vertical space, 16 pixels highblank vertical space, 16 pixels high

The brown fox peered around the corner of the biker bar.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

The proverbial coast was clear.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

He stole a motorcycle.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

The fox liked to live dangerously.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

He came to a pencil in the road.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

Not a fork.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

A pencil.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

A big pencil.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

It was tilted up like a ramp.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

The fox roared up the pencil and soared over a dog that was lying nearby.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

“The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog!!” he exulted. “Hot damn! — a pangram!!”blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

The dog was not amused.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

This is the best day of my life, thought the fox, just before he crashed and died.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

I did not expect the fox to die… in that manner. Maybe at the hands of the biker who got his bike stolen…

Oops!– sorry, Margy! Yes, that did seem a bit rude, hurrying him off like that. Ol’ Foxy was a likable character, despite his thieving ways. Well, he may be back. You know what they say about foxes, they have 9 lives. Oh, wait… 🤔😳😬💦

Always a pleasure, hope you and The Car Guy are well, and thanks as ever for your kind support!! 🙏😊

Well, that was fun! And I learned something new. I’ll have to try my hand at one of those drabble things, but you’ve set the bar so high. At least in cuteness and illustrative factor.

Hope you are well and getting ready for winter!

My dear Maddie!!– too kind as is your custom!! 🙏🙏🙏

Yeah, these crazy drabbles seem to be all the rage in certain publications on the Medium platform. Someone provides a prompt and the wheels start grinding, and off you go. I bet you’d be good at them given your mystery plotting skills. Say– and weren’t you a motorcycle person at one point?? Oops!– we’d better not go there after what happened to reckless Mr. Fox!!

Got all my firewood in, but it’s weird– summer keeps clawing its way back. It was almost 70 degrees here in New Hampshire today. I’ll take it!!

Great to see you, and thanks so much for your very kind comment!! 🙏😊

Oh, how I miss that motorcycle! The sun on my face. The wind in my hair. I doubt I will ever ride again as I trusted Rich with my life. Not so much a fox.

And yes, this weather is certainly squirrely. Almost 80 here today. Fifties tomorrow. But the car is serviced. I have as many supplies as I can cram into my apartment, and I’m ready for winter. Planning to hibernate and write. Hoping to emerge a butterfly in spring. 🙂
