Book Promotion: A Haiku Walks Into A Marketing Video
Ashi Akira lives in Tokyo. He’s a writer, a poet. He composes beautiful haikus which he posts on his blog.
His blog’s dedication page is riveting and absolutely unique. Do take a look. You won’t soon forget it.![]()
Ashi composes his haikus in English. He worked for a news agency for many years as an English language reporter and translator.
Ashi has collected 496 of his haikus and published them as a book.![]()
In his Introduction, he explains that he calls his work haiku poems out of deference to Japanese haiku writers who feel feel the word haiku should not be used for non-Japanese three-line poems; that a true haiku is dependent on Japanese pronunciation and tone.![]()
Ashi respects that view, but feels there is something in the core of haiku that can be retained in whatever language it is written.![]()
![]()
I also decided to throw away all rules and tradition about the haiku writing except two basic ones, namely the five-seven-five syllables—rhythm—and its connection with nature, without which a haiku cannot be a haiku.![]()
I’m a huge fan of Ashi’s work, and it was a pleasure creating this video to promote his book.![]()
The beautiful soundtrack is titled Waterfall. It was composed by Aakash Gandhi. I downloaded the track from the YouTube Music Library. Mr. Gandhi offers piano tutorials on his website. You can enjoy more of his music on his YouTube channel.![]()
Ashi’s book is available at both Amazon and Lulu.com.![]()
