Valentine’s Day: Busker Gets Lucky

February 14, 2015

Yes, friends, it’s Valentine’s Day. Busker, our favorite street musician, is out on the corner with his loyal saxophone. I’ll bet he’s playing something soft and romantic.

Was that a CLUNK? Did someone just drop a coin in his tin can? Wait a minute– that’s not a coin. But it looks promising…

Do you like Valentine’s Day, or is it something you could do without?

Do you ever buy conversation hearts? Do you always read them before you eat them??

Do you go out on February 15th looking for Valentine candy that’s 50% off?? Save some for me.

Hope you’ll leave a comment.

Ah, my dear Tutti! I’m afraid I can’t rely on true life– mine is so dull. Fortunately, I have a warped and twisted mind, which comes in handy in the humor department… : )

A very Happy Valentine’s Day to you, and I hope you got that big box of chocolate-covered bratwurst dainties I sent you… : )

Ha! Right you are, my dear Linda! Busker was indeed a Boy Scout. He earned merit badges for Saxophone, Panhandling, and Being A Public Nuisance. Oh– and one for Kissing Technique. He, er, belonged to a very progressive troop… : )

Happy Valentine’s Day, and I hope you got a box of chocolate-covered Funyuns!! : P

So happy that Busker found true love. It did seem like he had “high” hopes. But resourceful guy that he is, it all worked out. Happy Valentine’s Day, Mark.

I’ve never heard of conversation hearts.

Until I met my partner, I never paid attention to Valentine’s Day when I was single.
Even now, our celebration is a simple meal or small dessert for the day.

But today we went to our favourite chic pizza place where they had a mult-course fix prix menu. Filling meal plus leftover thin pizza for next day and free rose for the ladies.

Dearie has been looking after me a lot ever since I sustained a head injury after another cyclist crashed into me on this New Year’s Day. It’s been slow recovery.

🙂 It was good and enough for V-day. But every day is V-day: day of peace. Not victory. 🙂

    Hope your day was lovely.

Jean! I’m so sorry to hear about your head injury. How awful. Every so often I hear about a serious bicycle accident, but it’s rarely anyone I know. I do hope every day brings you closer to a full and complete recovery.

Pizza for Valentine’s Day– sounds good! I hope they topped it with heart-shaped pepperoni… : )

I did have a nice day myself, thanks, despite– or perhaps because of– chocolate overload!

I liked your “Every day is V-day: day of peace, not victory.” Cheers, and get well soon!! : )

I like valentines day…spreading love is always a good thing. Spread it to friends and strangers. Yes I buy conversation hearts and I read them and then try to communicate with my husband using only the hearts. But news flash I ate a few, okay a lot, this year because they actually had flavors…not just the sweet hard chalk like stuff of my youth. Thanks Mark always enjoy a visit to your world.HV Day much better abbreviation than HVD, don’t you think?

Hi, Alison! Great to see you, sorry for this tardy reply. You try to communicate with your hubby using only conversation hearts?? That conjures up quite a scenario!! I’ll hafta take a closer look at those hearts next year. Sounds like some of them now have very hubby-specific messages like DIRTY SOCKS and TOILET SEAT… : )

I’ll confess I haven’t eaten any conversation hearts in a couple of years. They have flavors now?? They’re no longer hard and chalky?? Boo-hoo! I feel like part of my decadent, sugar-laced childhood just died… : (

      HVD… well, gee, I dunno… there’s something kinda romantic about a Holographic Versatile Disc… : )

My dear Marina! Your charming comment sent me into a swoon. Not even a 5-pound box of chocolates could achieve such a pronounced ecstatic effect! Sorry to be so late in wishing you a very Happy Valentine’s Day. I hope a legion of Cupids descended on you, bearing chocolates and flowers, and singing beautiful songs from your new CD!! : )

Awwww… thankfully the Cupids dropped some chocolates on their descent. Much needed after those hours at the studio!
The new cd isn’t available even to them yet [being burned and printed as we speak], but your words are a divine song, so I am more than happy!!! 😉

There once was a gal named Radhika
An Indian word which means “Seeker”
When the cold froze her feet
What she sought was some heat
As in beaver fur socks, oh Eureka!!

Busker looked with dreamy eyes at her
Said: Oh, won’t you make my heart gladder?
      She said: I can try
      But I
      am five-foot-five
So he fetched a much taller ladder!!

Ah, poetry… (sigh) You cain’t rightly beat it fer purdy words, ah reckon… : )

-37°C??? Why, in Fahrenheit that would be, uh, uh… cold!! Real cold. Well, stay warm, wear your beaver fur long underwear, and many thanks for your mirthful, heart-warming comment!! : )

My wife says she’s happy to be just enough shorter than me to rest comfortably on my chest if she needs to. *shrug* Whatever works. I would be okay if she was just as tall; I tended to date women close to my height, even those that could look me dead in the eye. At 6’1″, I’m not necessarily TALL tall for a guy, but that same height is considered very tall for women… even though I see a lot of the newer generation bringing young women much closer to that, on average– I guess Busker’s solution wouldn’t be all that unusual, these days!

What’s that?? Your wife likes to rest her head on your manly chest?? Hmm. Many men would like to face similar challenges, Jak… : )

I know a couple with two daughters: the older daughter’s 6’0″, the younger’s 6’2″. The couple and the younger daughter showed up trick-or-treating one Halloween. I noticed the older daughter was missing, and said: “Hey, you’re one short.” The younger daughter looked at me and deadpanned: “No one in our family is short.” Ha! A wise apple like her mother. : )

If you take away the commercialism that comes with Valentine’s, I think it’s a really nice idea. I mean, why not spread the love and joy? 🙂

There was a Japanese anime I watched (called Fruits Basket) where the main character gave Valentine’s chocolates to her friends, not for romantic reasons, but simply to show them how much she cared – I thought that was really sweet. Sure, romance is nice, but if it’s a day celebrating “love”, maybe it doesn’t have to be limited to the romantic kind!

I’m a little late to this post. So here’s an early Happy Easter to you, Mark! Hope the Easter Bunny brings you lots of treats 🙂

Dearest Lily!! Must you be so nice?? Well, well, I suppose you can’t help it… : )

I totally agree with you about Valentine’s Day: restricting “love” to romantic love doesn’t seem right. First, love shouldn’t be restricted, and second, not everyone is in the Romantic Zone when ol’ St. Valentine makes his yearly round. Well! I’m glad we got that settled… : )

Yes, the Easter Bunny came thru for me this year. I suspect he was bribed by my dentist. Hope your Easter was exultingly joyous, dear Lily!!
